Conveyor engineering: idler roll and drive system insights
Dr Tiago Cousseau and Dr Peter Robinson from TUNRA Bulk Solids, will be hosting a hybrid event in conjunction with the Australian Society for Bulk Solids Handling on Wednesday 12th November at Engineers Australia in Perth.
The seminar consist of two presentations. The first will focus on the importance of design, manufacturing, and selection of idler roll components. It will show how overlooking lubricant choice or geometric tolerances can cause premature failure and excessive replacements. Through real-world case studies, the seminar highlights common design pitfalls and offers practical insights to avoid these issues in future projects. The second presentation will present the current method for designing conveyor drive systems, in terms of traction, lagging selection and belt tension management. The limitations associated with the current process will be discussed, and current research into optimising this design process will be presented. Experimental test data and case studies will be utilised to differentiate between the different design methodologies
Learning outcomes
In this presentation, you will:
- learn through case studies and the lesson learnt from these
- learn how testing and optimised selection practices can prevent premature component failures and ensure more efficient and safer bulk solids handling operations
