SUMMARY:Iron Ore Testing for Reliable Design
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will explore materials handling testing programs for iron ore operations and application to effective design. Sessions will include: \n\nFlow Properties testing\nOther specialised testing (including testing for Discrete Element Method DEM calibration)\nInterface with geomet testing and considerations on sampling\nApplication of testing results to design\nIron ore-specific case studies\n\nWorkshop presenters\nDr Dave Bradney \nDr David Bradney is the Engineering Manager and a Senior Consulting Engineer at TUNRA Bulk Solids. He has over a decade of experience working in both research and industrial consultancy on a diverse range of challenging projects in the mining\, manufacturing\, and energy industries. Dr Bradney has a high level of expertise in the application of computational modelling regularly applying Finite Element Analysis (FEA)\, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)\, and Discrete Element Method (DEM) Modelling across a broad array of problems within the bulk material handling sector. In addition to his role with TUNRA Bulk Solids\, Dr Bradney is also an Honorary Lecturer with the University of Newcastle\, and currently delivers the Advanced Computer Aided Engineering course at both an Undergraduate and Masters level for the School of Mechanical Engineering. \nMr Kudzai Beta  \nMr Kudzai Beta is a Mechanical Engineer with several years of experience at TUNRA Bulk Solids\, specialising in bulk materials handling. Since first joining TUNRA in 2019\, he has worked across a wide range of consulting projects\, with a strong focus on Discrete Element Modelling (DEM) for transfer chute design\, ore pass performance\, including flow and wear optimisation.\nHe has extensive experience in flow properties testing\, and has contributed to numerous projects across the coal\, iron ore\, gold ore and other minerals industries. Kudzai also acts as the Project Manager for some of TUNRA’s largest ongoing testing programs involving iron ore from the Pilbara region. Additionally to his work at TUNRA Bulk Solids\, his background also includes a period as a Plant Engineer with MCi\, supporting plant operations. \nNOTE: To attend this workshop\, add it to your cart as you register for the Iron Ore and Open Pit Operators Conference 2026. SUMMARY:TUNRA Bulk Solids Iron Ore Workshop - How to make materials handling decisions
DESCRIPTION:A detailed understanding of material properties is crucial to ensure optimal performance in the handling chain. When it comes to iron ore\, specific test methods are available to assess its quality from a materials handling perspective. This helps differentiate between “good” and “bad” materials based on factors such as internal strength\, friction\, and cohesion. Testing outcomes provide valuable data\, which\, when interpreted correctly\, inform decision-making to ensure optimal performance under a range of conditions\, optimizing design\, processing and transport efficiency. \nHowever\, it is essential to recognize that the landscape of available deposits is constantly evolving. As we extract ore from new deposits\, new challenges are encountered\, driving innovation in handling\, processing\, and testing technologies. \nThe workshop on ‘How to Make Materials Handling Decisions’ will introduce: \n\nThe importance of materials testing\nMaterials testing available for iron ore\nWhat “good” and “bad” iron ores look like\nTesting outcomes and their interpretation\nBenefits of specific ore testing in the design process\nThe evolving challenges in testing and application\n\nFor further information on the event or to register
